Are you interested in becoming an Alexander Technique teacher?

Founded in 1987 by Director Missy Vineyard, The Alexander Technique School New England (ATSNE) is a comprehensive teacher training program dedicated to training highly skilled professionals committed to serving the public and contributing to the development of the profession. The program covers all aspects of teacher training, with emphasis on a step-by-step, systematic approach to training that enables students to develop a high level of personal use of themselves and hands-on skill.

ATSNE PeopleThe training program consists of more than 1600 in-class hours and requires a minimum of three years to complete. Classes meet four days a week, Monday to Thursday, from 9 am to 1:15 pm. In addition students receive a private lesson every three weeks, complete an independent study project each year, and attend a monthly evening seminar in the third year. The yearly calendar is divided into two semesters and closely follows the academic schedule from early September to mid-June. Enrollment is limited and a five-to-one student-teacher ratio is maintained.

The course is approved by AmSAT and meets all its requirements for training courses. Students who successfully complete the course receive a certificate from ATSNE. With the Director's recommendation, graduates receive certification from, and are eligible for membership in, AmSAT.

After completing the course, graduates are encouraged to remain in the area for an additional year of study known as the Internship. This is designed to further develop the new teacher's skill and to offer guidance in developing a teaching practice. (Click on Post-Graduate Study.)

Located in Amherst, Massachusetts, ATSNE is ideally situated to take advantage of the cultural, educational, and recreational opportunities in the beautiful Pioneer Valley and the "Five College Area." Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the school to attend class and meet with Missy Vineyard to discuss their educational and professional goals.
